Key Stage 5

Key Stage 5 Curriculum

In the Sixth Form, Year 12 and 13 students have their own area within the school building. This consists of a dedicated Sixth Form dining area, a Sixth Form common room, two small group work study rooms and a large computer suite to facilitate independent study.

For more details on the curriculum offered, please refer to our parent/carer handbook: parent/carer handbooks

Students are offered a wide range of AS/A level subjects to choose from. Most students follow a programme of study which involves studying 4 core AS Levels in Year 12 leading onto 3 A2 Levels in Year 13. However, we can and do design more flexible programmes of study for individual learners, where this is required.

All students also follow a course in RE which assists students in developing critical thinking skills and receive supervision for the completion of the Extended Project Qualification in Year 12. The completion of the EPQ benefits students in developing a wide range of transferable skills which can be applied into their other subject areas encouraging the highest achievement possible.

Sixth Form students receive the support of a specialist Sixth Form tutor and follow a tutorial programme that ensures that students are able to successfully adapt to the requirements of AS/A Level study. It also guarantees that students receive accurate and timely information and advice as they make decisions about progression to Higher Education or Employment. Students can select from a wide range of extra-curricular and other enrichment opportunities such as Young Enterprise or Sports Leadership.

Sixth Form students are also involved in the whole school pastoral system. Each student belongs to a house and is linked to a lower school tutor group as an associate tutor. This gives opportunities to demonstrate and develop leadership and to take an active role in the school community.
