GCSE success

Very many congratulations to the Minster School's students who received their GCSE results today.  They are a culmination of the efforts of students, families and teachers all working together and there are many notable individual successes.

In a time of very significant change it is pleasing to note that 80% of Minster year 11 students achieved a standard pass or better in both English and Maths, sustaining our very good outcomes of recent years.  More than 50% of students also achieved 5 strong passes (equivalent of grade B-) including the new very challenging English and Maths qualifications.

Particular congratulations to the 40 students who achieved at least a grade 7 (A equivalent) or better in both their English and Maths GCSEs - a stunning achievement considering the level of difficulty presented by the exam papers in July.

Some notable individual successes:

  • Eleanor Couch (from Southwell) achieved 2 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 5 A* grades and a grade A
  • Lucy Evison (from Southwell) , Bethany Carter (from Southwell), Jack Hall (Hoveringham), Selina Rees (Southwell), Jake Crone (Southwell),  Ben Lewis (Bleasby) and Imogen Birkett (Southwell) all achieved a clean sweep of A/A*/8/9 grades.

Matthew Parris, Head Teacher at Minster School said, "There are many individual results to celebrate today and large numbers of students have performed very well, achieving results exceeding theirs and the school's expectations.  This is particularly impressive considering the level of difficulty presented by some of the new examinations and the considerable turbulence in results expected this year and in coming exam seasons.  My thanks to the dedicated staff of the Minster School and to families for their ongoing support and encouragement of our students."
