We are delighted to welcome you to the Minster Teaching School Alliance, based at the Minster School, Southwell.
The Minster School was designated as a National Teaching School in February 2013. This status, awarded only to Outstanding Schools, means that together with an Alliance of Strategic Partners, The Minster Teaching School has responsibility for leading a ‘self- improving school system’ in the local area and beyond; it has accepted a collective responsibility for the performance of the schools within the Alliance, not just its own.
The overarching aim of the Minster Teaching School Alliance is that all students in all schools within the alliance will benefit from a commitment to work collaboratively to share strengths and support development, whilst ensuring that the high standards we expect for our own school are maintained.
Teaching Schools and their alliances are charged with initiating self-improvement in the following areas:
- Initial Teacher Training
- Continuing Professional Development
- Talent identification and leadership development
- School-to-school support
- Designation and brokerage of Subject Leaders of Education (SLEs) and Minster Teaching School Alliance Leaders of Education (MLEs)
- Research and development activities
The Minster Teaching School has a long-standing tradition of leading in these areas. The Alliance has NLEs, LLEs SLEs and many strong Senior and Middle Leaders who have all contributed to the improvement in outcomes for those young people attending the schools where their support has been implemented. The successes enjoyed by schools working collaboratively have been wide-ranging and are testimony to the ideology of a ‘self-improving’ model.
Intent on expanding its capacity as well as maximising its potential for impact, the Minster Teaching School is a member of EMTSA, the East Midlands Teaching Schools Alliance, which brings together representatives of prominent Teaching Schools across the region.
The Minster Teaching School Alliance looks forward to working with you.
Further to the national press announcements today regarding Maths Hubs, we are delighted to confirm that the Minster School, through its Teaching School status, has been selected as one of only 32 schools and colleges in England to take the lead role as a Maths Hub for the East Midlands region.
Maths Hubs are a new network of school-based centres designed to improve maths education for children and teenagers of all ages across the country
