Why train with us?

An introduction to The Elizabethan Academy

When we converted to academy status in 2012, we were worried that joining a chain or a federation would mean the loss of many things that make The Elizabethan such a vibrant and unique place to work and learn.  This is why we chose to become a stand-alone academy.

Partnership working is important to us, and we have contributed to – and benefited from – three Teaching School Alliances.  We also have very close links with our Family of Schools, and academic and social transition from primary to secondary is carefully planned and monitored.

We are an 11-18 school; Years 7 – 11 are based on the Hallcroft Road site, with Years 12 and 13 educated at Retford Post 16, a shared provision between The Elizabethan, Retford Oaks and North Notts College.  Both sites enjoy modern, purpose built facilities.

Ofsted graded us “good” in 2011 and again in 2014; however, this is not how we measure success.  We believe that education is not just about preparation for exams, and we have a comprehensive Student Leadership Programme which supports students in developing vital skills such as team work, confidence and resilience.
