GCSE results day - Cause for celebration for year 11 students

Year 11 students are celebrating today as they collect their GCSE results and look forward to the next stages of education and training.

Following the government’s decision earlier this week the grades awarded to students are based upon the Centre Assessed Grades submitted by the school and the Minster School is pleased that the grades are based upon our knowledge of students’ capabilities rather than a national statistical model. We are very proud of all of our students who have earned, through hard work, dedication, resilience and strength of character, the results they receive today and it has been a privilege to celebrate their success with them this morning,

Many students receiving outstanding grades. Charles Onslow was awarded 11 grade 9s and is planning to study Physics, Maths and Chemistry at A level. Asher Porter received 10 grade 9s and will study Spanish, French, English Literature and History at A level. Ben Segasby also achieved 10 grade 9s and is intending to study Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry at A level. Liza Ivanova has achieved 9 grade 9s and is studying Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Further Maths. Megan Broster has 8 grade 9s and will study English Language, Maths, Further Maths and History. Katy Edinborough has 7 grade 9s and is studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A level. All of these students have received fantastic grades as a consequence of their efforts throughout their studies. We are very proud of their achievements and delighted that they will be staying at the Minster School Sixth Form to continue their studies next year.

We are equally proud of students who have achieved results above their initial GCSE target grades. Niamh Haslam beat her target grades in 6 subjects, Ethan Wood and Alex Bradford were both above target grades 5 subjects, and May Elliot received 4 grades that were higher than her targets. These grades are a testament to their resilience and hard work throughout their time at The Minster School.

As with all students across the country, our Year 11 students have faced a long period of school closure and the cancellation of the exam season that is normally the chance to demonstrate what they learned during their time in school. These have been challenging times for all, but students and staff have responded with resilience and optimism and achieved great success. Students in Year 11 should be proud of the results they have achieved as they reflect their abilities and hard work, proven throughout their school education.
