Six students represented The Minster School when they performed as part of the Able Orchestra at BBC Studios Salford

This was a project looking at finding different ways to perform music, creating a live and digital orchestra.

Evie-Mae Whitehead, Rosa Armstrong, Stephen Frith, Nathan Salmon, Georgia Kay and Rosie Wolfe have been working closely over the past few weeks with Fountaindale School and Outwood Academy.  This built up to the performance of a newly composed piece by Oliver Vibrans in a joint collaboration with Inspire Music, Inspire Youth Arts,  BBC Philharmonic, Halle Orchestra, and Orchestras Live. The students received coaching from the Halle Orchestra, developing their musical skills.

The students found the experience extremely valuable, playing with other schools was a highlight for everyone, as Georgia mentioned;

“When the other schools arrived and we all started playing Oliver’s piece, called More Up, it was really fun!”

Parents were equally delighted with “the opportunity of such an incredible experience at a high profile event”, and to hear how excited the students have been since, “I’m confident this will also lead [them] to engage further in Music – we can’t thank you enough for the investment in them and their ability.”
