Exam Board - WJEC Level 3 Diploma

The nature of the course:

The Level 3 Diploma has been designed to provide you with underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills to progress to further study and training in a food related degree or career. An understanding of food science and nutrition is relevant to many industries and job roles. Hotels and restaurants, food manufacturers and government agencies also use this understanding to develop menus, food products and policies that support healthy eating initiatives. This is an applied qualification which means that each unit within the qualification has an applied purpose which acts as a focus for learning. You will research authentic case studies and consider how the use and application of learning impacts on individuals, employers, society and the environment.

Course components:

To achieve a WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition (QCF) three units are completed which include unit 1 and Unit 2 which are mandatory.

Unit 2 Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat - Mandatory unit
External assessment worth 25%

Unit 3 Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems - Optional Unit Internal assessment worth 25%
Unit 4 Current issues in Food Science and Nutrition- Optional Unit Internal assessment worth 25%
