Exam Board - AQA A Level

The nature of the course:

Psychology is described as ’the study of mind and behaviour’. It originated from Philosophy as a separate academic subject about 150 years ago. It attempts to explain all forms of human behaviour, why we think and behave in the way we do, and can, therefore, be very challenging.

Students will be expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological concepts and theories, research studies, research methods and ethical issues
- Apply psychological knowledge and understanding of the content in a range of contexts
- Analyse, interpret and evaluate psychological concepts, theories, research studies and research methods

Course components:

The full A level course is examined at the end of the 2 years by three 2 hour exams.

Paper 1: Social Influence, memory, attachment, psychopathology
Paper 2: Approaches, biopsychology, research methods
Paper 3: Issues & debates, cognition and development, schizophrenia and addiction
